Johor allows Conditional Marriage Solemnization – 17 May 2020

JOHOR BAHRU – Islamic Religious Department of Johor (JAINJ) had allowed marriage solemnization to resume with fixed measures in this Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period starting 17 May 2020.

Tosrin Jarvanthi, Johor’s Islamic Religious Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Development Committee Chairman had mentioned in his press statement that only a total of 6 people are allowed during this solemnization. These number includes the bridegroom, witness and the “wali”.

The ceremony will take place in the Johor Pejabat Kadi and will last for only 20 minutes. The couples are not allowed to have any other separate function elsewhere.

He also added that those attending the ceremony MUST abide by the MCO precaution measures such as wearing a face mask, use sanitizer and social distancing.

The marriage solemnization will be postponed if the couples or “wali” is found to have a body temperature more than 37.5 or any sign of illness and is confirmed to have contact with any of the active clusters.

In his press statement, he also mentioned that there’s a total of 872 pending approved marriage solemnization registration in Johor’s Pejabat Kadi since Movement Control Order (MCO) had been imposed by the government on 18 March 2020.

He also added that they’re still accepting marriage applications in and outside Johor. However, priorities will be given to the Malaysian couples.

Hopefully, people will all abide by the rules set and avoid taking these rules for granted.
